Unique Features of Mountain Bikes

Jesus Fomperosa, does mountain biking in his spare time. Mountain bikers like Jesus Fomperosa use distinctly different bicycles from city bikers.

Unlike city bikes, mountain bikes focus every element of their construction on the idea of traveling through rough terrain. This can include dirt, mud, or gravel, and can also be appropriate for regions with heavy snow.

Frames for mountain bikes use tough metals such as carbon fiber, titanium and steel, or may be made of carbon fiber. These tougher frames allow them to withstand hard or unusual impacts. Suspension systems also help reduce the effects of shock on the bicycle frame, and may be installed on the front wheel or both wheels.

The handlebars of mountain bikes also differ from their road cousins. Mountain bikes' flat handlebars force the rider into an upright position, improving balance as well as control, encouraging a safer ride over bumpy terrain.
